Carassius auratus red variety and Carassius auratus were fed using basic feed mixed with differentconcentration (0,2.5%,5%and10%) of fish oil to investigate their growth and body color. These differentfeed were fed to four groups of Carassius auratus red variety and Carassius auratus respectively for49days with the diet quantity of1%of their weights. The main results were as follows:1.2.5%of fish oil was of benefited to the growth of Carassius auratus red variety. With the increase of fish oil feeding quantity, the weight and length of Carassius auratus redvariety increased slower. Body color (red, white or yellow) is usually used as an importantevaluation factor for ornamental fish. In this study,5%of fish oil was found to improve redvalue of Carassius auratus red variety, while reduced their white and yellow values.2.2.5%of fish oil was of benefited to the growth of Carassius auratus. It was also found that2.5%fish oil helps to increase the amount of Carassius auratus red value.3. The content of water, crude fat, crude protein was greatly different among different group ofCarassius auratus red variety. Control group had the most moisture content, which decreased along withthe increase of fish oil feeding quantity. Meanwhile, crude fat content increased while crude protein contentdecreased. Difference between5%fish oil group and10%fish oil group was in significant. The deviationin moisture, fat, and protein were0.53%,0.1%and0.27%, respectively.4. The content of water, crude fat, crude protein varied greatly among groups of Carassius auratus.Control group had the most moisture content. With the increase of fish oil feeding quantity, the moisturecontent and crude protein content decreased gradually, while crude fat content increased. The differencebetween5%fish oil group and10%fish oil group was in significant. Therefore, the additive amount of fishoil in the diet of Carassius auratus red variety or Carassius auratus can be controlled below5%.
