Colombian agriculture faces challenges in terms of productivity because of the increasing demand both domestically and internationally. Higher requirements for grains destined to biofuel production, a progressively globalized economy and weather catastrophes are some of the factors that accentuate the problematic. The country requires a food production model that has a positive impact on both nature and farmers in order to ensure sustainability. Capital should be effectively invested in agricultural research to diminish pollution effects, ensure biodiversity and to improve weather phenomena resistance. This research analyzes credit to agriculture access in Colombia and it examines the impact of agroecological practices on food productivity. The results from the binary logit model show that credit access probability is highly correlated to technical assistance. Furthermore in order to invest the credit received in an environmentally sustainable way, this research recommends the use of agroecological methods as a way to increase food productivity compared to conventional farming methods.
