Nowadays Shanghai is not only the financial center of China, but also one of the Far-east International financial center. After the anti-Japanese war, German, Italian and Japanese Bank received by the four main banks and the two Bureau under the control of the Kuomintang because of defeat. The banks of America developed rapidly while the other banks gradually were resumed. They used the “aid” and dumping goods to take our advantages into the Kuomintang areas, and the control during the U.S. imperialism to China also reached a historical peak. At the same time, our prices’ expansion continued warming, large capital inflows to foreign countries. However, the resumption of foreign banks weren’t smoothly as the capitalist powers think. Their foreign exchange business controlled by the laws and regulations of the Kuomintang, at the same time, affected by bureaucratic capital banks, the foreign banks showed a declining trend grudally. Objective of this study is to try to clear the business resumption situation of the foreign banks in Shanghai after the war against Japan. After World War II, because foreign banks attempted to profit in Chinese financial industry and the Kuomintang government also needed the financial strength to restore the financial industry in Shanghai, so the resumption of foreign banks was inevitable. The foreign banks assisted the restoration and reconstruction of the post-war Shanghai economy, played a role as a bridge to connect Chinese financial industry and the world financial industry. The reopened foreign banks mainly came from England and America.Among them, the development of American banks attracted people’s attention and the British banks’ strength was still very strong. At the same time, the Chinese banks had mushroomed and massive increased. In contrast, the foreign banks showed a decreasing trend. Because the central bank controlled the foreign exchange and the foreign banks had lost the extraterritorial protection, while the foreign exchange business advantage of the foreign banks were gradually weakened, the controlling force for financial markets of Chinese banks was much more powerful.Multiple reasons lead to the decline of the foreign banks in China. After experiencing the Liberation War, the foreign bank gradually quit China economy’s platform for the diplomat and politics reason.I try to make a comprehensive exploration of Shanghai as a national economiccenter so as to provide reference for the further study.
