The study focuses on the moderating effect of expatriates’ CQ and EQ on the relationship between their perceived knowledge stickiness and their knowledge learning effect, as well as the mediating effect of expatriates’(technical and general) knowledge learning effect on the relationship between their perceived knowledge stickiness and the task performance. After literature review and empirical study, we interview with multinational companies and make questionnaire survey on their expatriates. The data analyses show the results that expatriates’ perceived embeddedness and complexity of sticky knowledge is significantly correlated with their task performance, while expatriates perceived tacitiness of sticky knowledge has no relationship with task performance. After further analyses, we discover that expatriates’ technical knowledge learning effect mediates the relationship between perceived embeddedness and complexity of sticky knowledge and task performance, while expatriates’ general knowledge learning effect only partially supports this relationship. In the other hand, expatriates’ CQ and EQ moderate the relationship between perceived embeddedness of sticky knowledge and their technical knowledge learning effect. The research explores a new way to study the knowledge transfer process through the new mechanism-expatriates, and provide reference for company’s selection and training practice on expatriates. |
