A Study On The Theory Of Urban Development From The Perspective Of Economy

With the acceleration of urbanization, the research of the city is increasing,covering various disciplines involved in the meanings of city, the connotation ofurbanization, the stages of urban development, urban space, urban history, urbanplanning, urban form, urban culture and other aspects. Different disciplines anddifferent aspects enrich our perspectives of the city, and deepen our understandings.Urban stage theory is an important ideological support of urban studies. Inlongitudinal perspective, urban development is universal with the process of theemergence and development, but from the lateral view, urban development indifferent cultures and different regions is not synchronized, presenting a multi-levelstatus. Since the1950s, research on the stage of urban development has graduallyincreased, however, different angles and different disciplines make it difficult to forma consensus on the general rules or trends in urban development, needing to insightthrough some perspective. This study combs urban development logically from aneconomic perspective based on the application of Historical Materialism, forming thegeneralized understanding, having important theoretical and practical significance.This article is divided into five chapters. Firstly, respectively comb theoreticalstudies of urban development stage and economic development stage in twochapters, to provide a theoretical basis for the later study; In the next two chapters,based on theories elaborating especially Rostow’s stages of economic growth andBell’s post-industrial society, the study focuses on the division of urban developmentand the description of city characters such as population size, lifestyle, industrialstructure and spatial layout. Finally, the last chapter points out that the researchprovides a new way of thinking about the study of urban development stage eventhe urban studies, also takes Hangzhou and Shanghai for example.
