For advanced, modern gas turbine, control is primarily effected by varying fuel flow. For a gas turbine of fixed geometry in specified conditions, the operating state of the engine is determined completely by fixing the fuel flow.As an important part of full authority digital electronic control, the basic function of fuel metering device is to adjust the fuel flow to combustion precisely following the instruction of digital controller. In this paper, the control system and typical fuel system of gas turbine were studied. A fuel metering system test bench was designed and constructed. The objective was to implement and test the performance of LQ3 fuel metering valve, also study the dynamic characteristics of the valve.Building up the model of the system is the foundation of system control realization. In order to acquire precise dynamic characteristics of the fuel metering valve, in the paper, the theory of system identification was introduced. Data processing, model structure selection, model parameters estimation, model validation and basic algorithms were studied. To implement the system identification of the fuel metering valve, an experimental platform of system stimulus and data acquisition was built up based on LabVIEW. The identification algorithms and simulation methods were written by Matlab language. The ARX model parameters of the fuel metering valve were determined and validated based on this platform.
