In order to improve the aerodynamic performance of Savonius wind rotors, the arc-straight curtain which placed in the front of the Savonius wind rotor is tried to be used in this paper. The numerical analysis based on the Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) and the wind tunnel experimental are used to explore the effectiveness and control mechanism of the arc-straight curtain.Firstly, in order to improve the power performance of the Savonius wind rotor, the working principle and the improvement methods has been analyzed. And based on the analysis results, the flow control of aerodynamic performance of Savonius wind rotor via arc-straight curtain is composed.Secondly, in order to research the aerodynamic performance of the rotor with arc-straight curtain by numerical analysis and wind tunnel experiment, the numerical and experimental methods have been established. The numerical results of the wind rotor model are validated against the experime ntal dada to verify the feasibility of the numerical simulation methodThen, the aerodynamic performance of the rotor with arc-straight curtain has been researched by numerical and experimental methods. The results showed that the arc-straight curtain with differernt parameters all can effectively improve the aerodynamic performance of the rotor. In terms of the power coefficient,the wind rotor with curtain-c is superior to the wind rotor with other curtains and the Cpmax of the wind rotor has been increased from 20% to 30.3%.In the end, the pressure contours and velocity contours which generated from numerical simulation of the wind rotor with and without the curtain-c for two different wind attack angles are used to explore the control mechanism of the arcstraight curtain. The results has shown that the arc-straight curtain can effectively prevent the wind from flowing to the convex blade and increase the wind flow and velocity around the concave blaed, so as to improve the positive contribution of the concave blade and convex blade to the overall torque.
