As the hydraulic system has many advantages, which are widely used in various fields. With the development of engineering equipment to large-scale, efficient, intelligent direction, the equipment structure becomes more and more complicated, which leads to a significant increase of the probability of failure, and difficult to locate the fault. In order to ensure the hydraulic systems of large equipment is more reliable, stable and efficient operation, fault monitoring and diagnosis technology is very important. One tendency of hydraulic system fault diagnosis is to absorb the mature research results of fault diagnosis in other fields, and try to apply them to the fault diagnosis of hydraulic system. With the background condition, research hydraulic pump health monitoring and fault diagnosis technology is significant. In this paper, the swash plate axial piston pump is studied, from the two aspects of simulation analysis and experiment data analysis, the typical fault signatures are studied and extracted, which provides the basis for monitoring and fault diagnosis.Firstly, analyzed the swash plate axial piston pump working principle in detail, including motion analysis, transient flow analysis, mechanics analysis and so on. According to the working principle, the swash plate axial piston pump simulation model was established based on AMESim. Simulated the dynamic characters of the pump, and the main factors that affect the dynamic characters of the pump are researched. Single piston wear fault, Single piston stuck fault of the swash plate axial piston pump are analyzed by simulation.Second, set up a multi-functional hydraulic pump test bench, the bench can perform different fault tests of series specifications of piston pump, centrifugal pump, screw pump etc. and it can capture and store all kinds of monitoring data. Single piston wear, out ring fracture of the bearing fault experiments of the swash plate axial piston pump were operated, and collected the related test data.Finally, the time domain, frequency domain, and time-frequency domain analysis methods of the vibration signal processing were successfully applied to the swash plate axial piston pump test data analysis. Analyzed the pressure, torque, oil flow rate, oil leakage flow rate, vibration signals of the single piston wear fault test in detail, the vibration signal of serious piston sliding boots looseness fault, outer ring fracture of bearing fault were analyzed briefly. The time domain, frequency domain fault signatures corresponding to the above three fault types are extracted.
