The subject mainly focuses on the design of cushioning device for squib valve, which namely is the new-type fast open valve actuated by a kind of initiating explosive device, the research of energy absorption and body impact response on account of such valve’s features of short acting time and big impact, and finally reaches reasonable cushioning device design by improvement in accordance with the analysis results, which provides references for such valves and valves with similar requirements. Because of squib valve’s feature of being power actuated, cushioning device is a necessary part in valve’s internal design. Cushioning device has significant functions and it plays an important role in the design of squib valve. Besides, the reasonable design of cushioning device can effectively reduce the load on the valve support / pipeline due to the valve action, which can avoid the damage caused by the excessive impact of piston as valve is acting and meanwhile keep valve’s integrality.The main acting rationale of squib valve is power producing thrust, then driving piston to cut off the shear installed in body to open the valve. Valve’s integrated structure is compact, and certain impact will be done on body after completion of shear by piston. Due to the narrow space, the cushioning device can only be designed in piston chamber. The key point of this subject is designing an appropriate cushioning device in limited space and choosing reasonable cushioning material. Through research, squib valve uses the component of cushioning tubes to absorb the surplus energy after valve’s action. Besides, the two cushioning tubes of one squib valve are symmetrically installed under piston and each cushioning tube contains cushioning tube array welded between two steel plates up and down. Firstly, determining the appropriate cushioning tube quantity initially through the static compression study of single cushioning tube, analysis of the energy-absorbing feature and theoretical calculation. Secondly, determining the proposals of arranging cushioning tubes by doing body impact response and studying cushioning tubes layout by means of finite elements. Working out the corresponding test verification scheme, and finally getting the appropriate cushioning device design after corresponding test verification. At last, the design of cushioning device is verified to be appropriate through squib valve function test verification.
