Highways length can reach hundreds, even thousands of kilometers, and highways cross the different areas and have the complex geological conditions, so compaction treatment technology is an important subject in the highway construction. In order to meet the demand of rapid development of engineering construction, also adapting to the increasingly complex engineering technology and the increasingly stringent quality requirements, different compaction technology has developed. Compared with other compaction technology, the impact compaction method has a lot of advantages such as high efficiency and maneuverability, great influence depth and compaction effect. And the impact compaction method is widely used in the fields of roads, airports, dams and other engineering. However, the study of impact compaction method is far behind the engineering practice, which seriously hindered the development and popularization of impact compaction method. Based on theoretical research, numerical simulation and experiment data analysis, this paper analyses and studies the dynamic response and compaction effect of the impact compaction method, mainly including the following content:(1)By consulting the domestic and foreign related literatures, systematic generalization and commentary of the strengthening mechanism of impact compaction technology. P wave plays a major role in soil compacting progress, R wave has dual characters to the soil compaction. The compaction effect of stress wave decreases with the increase of strengthening depth and the impact rolling times.(2)Finite element model of compacting road roller compacting subgrade was incorporated in ABAQUS. Then the distribution and variation rules of the stress, displacement, acceleration inside the soil when the roller compacting the subgrade was studied. Also, the compaction effect and scope of compacting road roller with different tonnage and different speeds was analyzed. The result shows that the effect depth of compacting road roller compacting the subgrade is 1.5m, The peak value of vertical acceleration of compacting wheel and the modulus of soil shows a significant positive correlation.(3) Based on theoretical analysis, numerical simulation and experiment data, the paper study the change of compaction degree and settlement under the action of impact roller compaction, discuss the correlation between the acceleration response of the impact compaction wheel and the compaction effect of the soil. Through the study this paper found that that the model is more in line with the actual condition, the results of numerical simulation agree well with the results of the experiments and has sufficient reliability, which can provide a reference for future design and construction of impact compaction.
