Railway transport industry is still the main mode of transport in china. Heavy haul transport can be a high efficiency form of the transportation of bulk cargo include coal or iron and other minerals, to a certain extent, solving the problem of resource imbalance in china. The axle load of heavy haul railway move up in recent years, the axle load has been opened 300 thousand tons of Shuohuang railway in 2014.The majority of heavy haul railway pass through high seismic area, the bridge once shows a lack of seismic capacity in the event of an earthquake, it will lead to heavy losses, so this is an urgent problem to be solved by analysing the condition of piers and seismic performance as well as raise a safety and reliability improvement method.Inorder to solve the above problems, the main contents in this paper are as follows:(1)After learning to use the Opensees software, select the appropriate unit,section, material set up a simple supported bridge which is in line with the engineering background.(2)After extracting the top displacement, the bending moment of pier bottom value in the heavy load, ordinary vehicle, heavy load and earthquake under the action of three kinds of, compare the results and analysis the dynamic response under the action of three.(3)Based on the yield and the limit value of the pier section under different conditions calculated by cross section characteristic calculation software, the state of the bridge pier and the seismic performance are judged.(4)After selecting the appropriate method which is strengthening steel plate in different function of the bridge pier, retrofitted piers needs to be evaluated on dynamic response of the bridge pier and the state of the bridge pier and the seismic performance of the bridge.
