Epoxy asphalt mixture EA-10 with its excellent physical and mechanical properties, has been ideal material used on steel deck pavement which has complicated mechanical characteristics. But EA-10, made of suspension dense structure, has the problem of insufficient pavement structure depth. Once the rain and other inclement weather occur, the vehicles at high speeds are prone to slipping. Given the graded skeletal structure has showed good skid resistance, the skeleton dense epoxy asphalt concrete has been put forward to improve skid resistance of epoxy asphalt pavement used on the steel deck pavement while the physical and mechanical properties taken into account.Firstly, the skeleton dense epoxy asphalt concrete VS-EA10 has been designed based on V-S volume design methods which based on multi-point support skeleton state of coarse aggregate, and the road performance and skid resistance of VS-EA10 has been evaluated by laboratory tests. The results showed that, compared with the EA-10 and SMA-10, VS-EA10 maintained EA-10’s excellent high temperature rutting resistance, good water stability and high coefficient of friction (BPN), and its texture depth (MTD) has been greatly improved with respect to the EA-10, even better than the SMA-10, but the deformability at low temperatures becomes weak and low temperature brittleness aggravated.Secondly, research on long-term skid resistance of VS-EA10 has been done by using the small traffic load simulation system MMLS3. The BPN and MTD has been chosen as skid resistance indicators, and the long skid resistance attenuation law of VS-EA10 has been analyzed by using the regression analysis, EA-10 and SMA-10 by contrast, the international friction index IFI has been introduced to make a comprehensive evaluation on the skid resistance of mixtures, by predicting the simulation times of various mixes when the BPN and MTD reached a critical state (BPN>45, MTD≥0.55mm),the F60 value of SMA-10 at 130,000 times has been chosen as skid resistance reference value of the steel deck pavement, the simulation times of VS-EA10 when the F60 decays to the reference value is far greater than the simulation times required for SMA-10, showed that the VS-EA10 has far superior skid durability than SMA-10.Furthermore, the experiments has been done by considering different water film thickness, mottled and full ice-face to explore the attenuation laws of VS-EA10 skid resistance under the climatic conditions of rain and freezing weather, the skid resistance values and the decay rate against skid resistance have been chosen as the evaluation index. EA-10 and SMA-10 in contrast, the results showed that the VS-EA10 has better skid resistance than EA-10 in rain and freezing weather climate conditions.Finally, the design parameter of VS-EA10 has been preferred based on gray absolute correlation degree, and through the merits of the order of various asphalt mixture’s skid resistance, the recommended parameter of gradation design has been given. The skeleton dense epoxy asphalt mixture design methods based on skid resistance performance has been put forward on the basis of the existing grading design theory and laboratory tests carried out in this paper. The results showed that the VS-EA10 has better skid resistance than EA-10 and SMA-10, and the recommended fine aggregate gradation design values has been confined to between 0.20 and 0.30, try to get a high value if conditions permit.
