Consumers’ needs for varied shopping experiences in commercial buildings have been changing gradually after the society entered into an era of experience economy. Greatly impacted by the online shopping which is a spawn of the information era, integrated commercial buildings are not simply restricted to do business or shopping nowadays, they are expected to be more functional to enable varied activities as well as to be a space with perceivable rich experiences. As a matter of fact, the accelerated urbanization progress makes land a scarce resource, which urges commercial buildings to make full use of available spaces.Based on the above backgrounds, the potential value for the usage of roof spaces in integrated commercial buildings are getting more attentions. This paper aims at the utilization and design of the roof spaces in commercial buildings. Among those investigations, the form of the roof space is researched in particular.Design and usage of the roof space is a trend in the research of integrated commercial buildings at present. It is proved that abundant benefits can be acquired from reasonable design of roof space: adjust the microclimate of the urban; improve afforestation level;maximize the commercial space; promote the quality of life in urban areas and enrich shopping experiences of consumers, etc. Whats more, it has a strategic significance on sustainable development.Chapter one introduces research backgrounds, research purpose, research status, research contents and methods.Chapter two deals with concepts of the integrated building and roof space, brief review, characters and facets of this paper.Chapter three investigates how to handle the relationship between space forms of integrated commercial buildings and space of the city.Chapter four discusses space themes, forms, layouts, details, etc of the roof space particularly.Chapter five focuses on the overall design of the inner space and the roof space of the integrated commercial building. Chapter six provides on-site investigations and several case analyses of the roof spaces which belong to typical commercial buildings mainly in subtropical areas. The last part of this paper gives a summary of research results as well as atrend for the evolution of the roof space forms of integrated commercial buildings. Besides, the part also sheds light on the way to excavate potentials of the integrated commercial buildings through the roof space design. Thus integrated commercial buildings are more service to the society and adapt it selves to the era of experiential economy.
