Following the progress of the times, the Automobile has become the indispensable part of people’s lives. The development of the automotive industry that not only brings enormous benefits to mankind, however, that also consumes large amounts of energy and pollutes our environment at the same time. So this article uses the automobile exhaust’s heat by thermoelectric power generation unit to recover part of the energy consumption of automobile, and the energy is converted to electrical energy to supply to clean functional muffler, so as to achieve the purpose of energy saving cars.First, based on the preliminary studies, the group summarizes the strengths and weaknesses of the first generation of automobile exhaust heat thermoelectric generators, so that improving power generation. the second generation of automobile exhaust waste heat Thermoelectric Generator is created. The power generating apparatus has hexahedron structural features, and whose internal fins are vortex structure, in order to increase the airflow turbulence, thereby improving the heat transfer efficiency and power generation.Second, using GT-POWER software to simulate the engine exhaust noise of a small and medium sized vehicle engine. The results show: when the engine speed is between 3500 to 6000r/min, the higher noise happens, and the peak noise is 110 ~ 124 dB, high noise value corresponding to a frequency concentrated between 180 ~ 200 Hz, and increases following the speed increased. The simulation results provide a basis for designing muffler later.Third, designing a suitable muffler structure, which use a combined structure of expansion chamber with resonator, given the basic parameters of the engine and the exhaust noise simulation result. Which can eliminates the medium and high frequency of the engine exhaust noise and with nearly no affecting the generator power structure.Fourth, at the base of the plasma exhaust gas purification technology combined with the muffler, using plasma’s high-energy to break the chemical bonds of cars’ exhaust and other harmful ingredients to harmless gases, in order to reduce the exhaust pollutants, with the corona discharge method.Fifth, automobile exhaust waste heat thermoelectric generators and purification muffler have been physical processed by using optimal design, supplemented with the experimental verification. The results showed that: automobile exhaust heat thermoelectric generators,designed in this paper, not only has high power generation efficiency, but also can meet the power requirements of the muffler; Meanwhile, the muffler’s cleaning function is greatly impacted by the supply voltage and the engine’s speed.
