Product design is a creative process which could generate new knowledge depending on existing information and knowledge, and it is important to reuse design knowledge in this process. About 60% of new product design activities are based on previous experience, while more than 70% of the design activities are variant design and adaptive design. Therefore, it’s necessary to efficiently and rationally express, organize and manage product design resource. By partially or fully reusing previous design resources and appropriate revising them, enterprises can improve product design efficiency and shorten the design cycle when facing with new design problems.However, there are few researches at present in the field of reusing design process and adaptively revising previous design solutions for complex product like small arms. Current research works couldn’t provide efficient services to support the process of reusing product design knowledge in new design activities. Therefore, this dissertation presents a design reuse method of small arms based on decision support problem technology, classifies and expresses small arms design knowledge, provides the method of obtaining rough solutions of small arms design problems using case-based reasoning method and performs the method to adaptively revise those rough solution with the decision based design ideal. The main contents are as follows:(1) Aiming at the characteristics and design patterns of current small arms design process, the small arms aided design framework on the base of knowledge reuse is presented. Furthermore, the small arms rapid design process with case-based reasoning method is provided and three key technologies are contained: the expression of product design knowledge, design reuse on the base of case-based reasoning and design problem solving based on decision support problem technology.(2) In order to reuse design knowledge and quickly obtain the rough solution in the small arms design field, design knowledge expression method are studied. The classification method of product design knowledge is presented and the expression methods of practical small arms case and design rules are proposed.(3) Based on the expression of product design knowledge, the small arms design reuse method using case-based reasoning method is presented. There are two important step in the case-based reasoning method: developing proper similarity calculation method for different design requirement index in the retrieve step and revising similarity case using design rules in the revise step.(4) The design problem solving method based on decision based design theory is discussed. Mainly talks about two kind of decision support problem: selected decision support problem and comprised decision support problem. The differences between decision support problem and tradition optimization problem are also presented.(5) Design and develop the small arms aided design prototype system based on the theoretical study. An overview of the system and the main functions of the system are also provided. Besides, a brief induction of one barrel design process is shown to explain the product aided design process.
