The range-extended generation system consists of engine, generator and controller. It could be applied to electric vehicle, to enhance the battery life and vehicle’s mileage with good fuel economy. It is the solution for electric vehicle which meets people’s travel demands and has fine effect on energy saving and emission reduction at present.This paper aims at low-speed electric vehicle, mainly analyzes the parameters determination, control method and energy management strategy of range-extended generation system.Firstly, according to the power demand of low speed vehicle, the parameters of the engine of the range-extended generation system are determined. Because the speed of engine can’t be regulated exactly, PMSG and its controller is adopted to realize power control of range-extended generation system. By analyzing the id=0 vector control method of PMSG, combing with the parameters of the engine, the method of the determination of PMSG parameters is proposed.Secondly, based on the driving circles of the electric vehicle, the operation modes of range-extended generation system are analyzed, combing with the battery discharge curve and the engine performance curve, the energy management strategy is put forward.Then the range-extended generation system simulation model is built by MATLAB, the effect of the energy management to electric vehicle is demonstrated in different driving circles theoretically.Finally, by building experimental platform and designing program for the control of PMSG and energy management strategy of the system, the performance of the vector control system of PMSG and the energy management strategy is verified with resistance load.
