Low-pressure steam generator known as waste heat power generation is the technology using the low pressure steam under 300℃ to produce electricity. There are two serials of control system of these generating equipments: one is the distributed control system(DCS) with larger capacity of equipment installed, higher automation degree and higher cost than the other one which the control system is single machine control system. The single machine control system is custom made to low the cost so the degree of automation, safety, reliability and efficiency of power generation and other properties are different.In this paper, a portable and generality embedded system are designed to lower the cost and improve its degree of automation, safety, reliability and efficiency of power generation. So it proposed an embedded control system based on the C8051F040 by analysis the needs and functions of the generator. The key problem is how to improve the system’s portability, versatility and maneuverability. So the system use the modular design method to divid the system hardware into CPU module, communication module, I/O module, high-speed I/O module, analog module and power modular. According to working principle of heat recovery, the software system is also divided into waste heat recovery, steam generation, grid-connected generating, condensate recovery, cooling and iubrication. The modular design method change the way designing a new embedded system, namely analysis the target system firstly, then selects the function models and assembles at last. It’s very convenient for expansion or cutting, management and maintenance.When complete the whole system of machinery, hardware and software, a test for every module can help to increasing stability and reliability of the system. And the test results show that the system designed can not only meet the current needs of practical production, but also to upgrade technology and made preparations for the future.Finally, the generating prototype applied to Roots-steam generator, the test shows the embedded control system designed can meet the control requirements, and make it’s possible to use in other types of generating equipments in the next step.
