Wind Power Ramp Events’ Identification Methods Research

Wind power ramp event is a large change in the power production over a short period of time, which is very harmful to wind farm and electrical grids. To further understand the characteristics and mechanism of ramp event, this study compared and analyzed the current commonly used three kinds of climbing event definition by choosing the wind power of the wind observation data, the WRF model simulation results. On the basics, by using the weight coefficient method, the revolving door SDT algorithm, I proposed two new climbing event recognition method and further explored the applicability of the new methods in Shandong peninsula power farm. The study analyzed the mechanism of a wide range of climbing events base on the use of Shandong peninsula 20 wind farm wind observation data of wind speed and direction of the 70 m wind tower, the FNL reanalysis data. The results show that:There are some limitations for three common method to determine wind power ramp event: Kamath definition, Haiyang definition and Bossavy definition. By comparing the three common definitions, I found that Kamath definition is not sensitive to creep speed fast ramp events, Haiyang definition is not sensitive to long-lasting ramp events, Bossavy definition is not sensitive to complex ramp events, and Bossavy definition has the highest recognition accuracy rate, at 84.6%.This paper proposes two reasonable definitions for ramp events: Improved Bossavy definition and Base on SDT algorithm definition, recognition accuracy rates are 92.7% and 93.2%. The statistical analysis for instance of ramp event shows that, the definition base on SDT algorithm is superior, which both can identify common and more complex types of ramp events.Using Base on SDT algorithm definition to analyze Shandong peninsula power farms’ ramp events, the statistics of ramp height, ramp rate and ramp duration suggest that Base on SDT algorithm for wind power ramp events has good applicability.We found that the incidence of ramp events in a wide range of Shandong peninsula was about 13 times per year, after preliminary exploring a wide range of ramp events, which results that wide range of ramp events mainly have a close relationship with blocking high and the low pressure system after the blocking high disappeared, the blocking high and the low pressure system are induced the important reason for the wide range of wind power ramp events.
