In reference to the international, especially Chinese city, rail transportation development experience, the city rail transit vehicle are discussed. And the rail transportation development situation, characteristics and applicability are analyzed.Based on the passenger flow analysis, combined with the characteristics of city natural conditions, environmental factors, population, traffic status and economic conditions, selection of vehicles of city rail transit lines in Addisababa were studied. At the same time, city rail transit vehicle selection evaluation index system is built using the AHP includes target layer, rule layer and index layer of, the construction, and the Addisababa city rail vehicle system selection was evaluated. The main research and conclusions of this paper are as follows:(1) City rail transit vehicle is classified, mainly divided into ordinary rail vehicle wheel, guide vehicles, light rail vehicles, monorail vehicle, maglev vehicle, automatic guide vehicle, and modern trams and development. Their characteristics, advantages and disadvantages and applicability are analyzed;(2) Based on the passenger flow analysis, combined with the Addisababa City, the natural environment, population, traffic and economic conditions and other characteristics, according to the analysis of city rail transit vehicle selection principle, the characteristics of two line standard and vehicle type, modern tram is recommended for Addisababa city rail transit.(3) The evaluation index system of urban rail transit vehicles is set up, which includes target layer, criterion layer and index layer, and the evaluation index is divided into the target layer and the criterion layer. According to the characteristics of the vehicle system, the passenger capacity, the actual operation condition, the engineering economy level, the safety condition and the social benefit are selected as the evaluation index of the standard layer. Each criterion layer is subdivided into two indicators, which reflects the vehicle capacity, travel speed, acquisition and operating costs, technical maturity, equipment reliability, etc., and is easy to evaluate and assess.(4) A comprehensive evaluation model of Urban Rail Transit is established based on analytic hierarchy process. The weight of each index is determined by "scale" method and expert scoring method. And then use the established urban rail transport comprehensive evaluation model to evaluate the vehicle system in Addisababa. Finally the most appropriate Addis Ababa, Badong West and North South line project of the model for the modern tram, in accordance with the recommended models.
