Surface is one of the important vehicles for the aesthetics of contemporary architecture. The current digital technology provides the powerful technical support for the complex surface design. From the development trend, the surface with both complicated visual effect and internal logicality is artistic and economic, and it is more in line with the demand of contemporary architecture design. Therefore, based on the uniform forms of honeycombs, this paper focused on the design method of the surface. This paper studied the tessellation at first. From the view of basic theory, the relationship between Tessellation and Crystal Geometry was clarified. The paper pointed out that theory of Tessellation is more universal. On this basis, this paper studied the architectural surface design with the three-dimensional uniform honeycombs. According to the thought of dimension reduction, the honeycombs were converted into planar patterns through section-method and projection-method. The specific method for controlling the complexity of tilings was brought up. With needs of construction, the optimization design for modularization of nodes, rods and plates was also discussed. Furthermore, the section-method for generating structural skins and architecture forms was researched. Finally, the design idea and method was summarized, and the practical application was discussed through the actual project. This study shows that with this method, a large number of planar patterns and spatial forms with complexity and periodicity are able to be generated quickly. This method is beneficial to modular design, and it has great application value in architectural surface design and interior design.Based on the uniform honeycombs, with the orientation of modular design, this paper studied the generation method of complex surface, and discussed the application of the method in architecture design as well. Different from the common design idea of the composition of single cells, this study provided a design method with generation of graphics system which is helpful to the innovation design of architectural design as well as expanding creative thoughts.
