Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) is an important issue during the converter station design and operational phases. It was determined by the interference level in station and immunity level of station equipment that if the converter station operate stably. This article give a detailed discussion of this issue which was divided in three parts-model building, analysis of interference level and electromagnetic immunity design. The study will provide important reference for engineers to design a stable HVDC converter station which has strong anti-electromagnetic interference capability. This paper calculate and analyze Electromagnetic interference level using the method of moments with EMTDC/PSCAD and FEKO. The main characteristics of HVDC are obtained by calculation and analysis of electromagnetic interference converter station:Voltage changes quickly with about 50kV/μs and 10kV/μs when converter open and shut down. It also cause electromagnetic interference between 130dBμV and 170dBμV; Compared with the PLC electromagnetic interference limits, AC and DC outlet significantly exceeded the level of interference. If communicate with PLC communication system, PLC Filters should be installed. DC side requires maximum attenuation of 19dB and AC side requires up to 48dB. The highest level of interference position is of the main circuit are the outlet of converter transformer and the inlet of Smoothing reactor. In addition, this paper also gives a detailed description of that how to design equipment, like converter transformer and smoothing reactor, with high anti-electromagnetic interference capability. It provides an important reference for improving anti-electromagnetic interference capability of converter station. The main features of this paper are that it systematically analyze the disturbance and immunity of entire converter station design, combined with the electromagnetic interference level of each important node of the converter station, it gives a detailed analysis of station equipment in anti-electromagnetic interference.
