Shell-and-tube heat exchangers are widely used in electric power, chemical industry, metallurgy and other fields, and it plays an important role in the process of industrial production. Improving the performance of shell-and-tube heat exchangers and reducing the irreversible dissipation in the process of heat transfer have great significance for improving the energy efficiency. However, how to automatically calculate, design and generate the shell-and-tube heat exchanger which will meet the requirements of heat transfer by setting the parameters is very difficult on account of that there are so many parameters are involved in the design of shell-and-tube heat exchangers.This paper is devoted to the research of the aided design software of shell-and-tube heat exchangers based on SolidWorks. The object oriented software development method is used to the system modeling by UML in the design phase to achieve high cohesion and low coupling of the function modules. The software adopts MVC architecture to the decomposition of development module. The software will be embed into SolidWorks in the form of a COM component. The software realizes the data exchange between Matlab and Visual C++ and it sets up a standard parts database of shell-and-tube heat exchanger. The software can generate the 3D model of parts and assemblies by two parametric design method.This paper implements the processed operation by calling the MFC specific classes, and the relevant thermodynamic parameters and structural parameters of shell-and-tube heat exchangers will be inputted by users according to the heat transfer requirements. The calculation will be carried out by programming according to the structure calculation, heat transfer calculation and flow resistance calculation. And the software will output the calculation results in two ways. The generated 3D models of parts, engineering drawings will feedback to the users. Finally, this paper writes the software instructions and other documents.The aided design software of the shell-and-tube heat exchanger uses the object oriented software development method, and it has a clear code structure with high cohesion and low coupling. The software realizes the auto- calculation and auto-design with multi tube pass structure, a variety of tube layouts and multitype pass partition plates. The software will save the design time, improve the design quality, so as to achieve the effect of saving manpowers and material resources in the design phase of shell-and-tube heat exchangers.
