Pumping station is the hub of water supply and drainage system. Pump sump, is an important part of the pumping station, flow pattern of which plays a vital role for the safety and efficient operation.In this thesis, a 3D turbulence model about the pump sump of small multi-unit pumping station is established, and the numerical model was verified by the model test. The RNG k-ε turbulent model was used to established the numerical model. VOF method was used in processing the free water surface.Based on the established mathematical model, the installation position of the suction pipe of the pump sump with two units were optimized. According to the results of the optimization, the measures of the diversion board are added to improve the flow pattern in the pump sump, and the position and size of the diversion board are studied. The main contents are as follows:(1) With the uniformity of velocity of the suction pipe for the optimization index, based on the numerical simulation of a variety of working conditions, the main structural dimensions with suction pipe spacing, back wall distance and suction suspension height of the suction pipe of the pump sump with multi-unit pumping station were optimized.(2) When there is no flow velocity in the river, the flow pattern of the pumping station can be improved effectively by adding a diversion board in the middle of the two suction pipe. By the comparison of the results of the multi-scheme numerical simulation, the suitable diversion board length was determined.(3) When the water intake channel is flow rate, the flow pattern of the pumping station can be improved to a certain extent by adding a flow guide plate with 45 degree angle to the river bank. By the comparison of the results of the multi-scheme numerical simulation, the suitable horizontal distance of the shore end point of the diversion board to the center point of the water suction pipe was determined.The research conclusions of this thesis can provide technical basis for optimizing the pump sump of small multi-unit pumping station hydraulic design, improving the flow pattern of the pump sump and improving the operation and management level of small multi-unit pumping station.
