Power system simulation with mathematical models instead of actual power system, the computer system’s operating characteristics of the process of testing and research using numerical methods. And other digital simulation programs like Real Time Digital Simulator (RTDS) is implemented based on mathematical models, but the computing speed there is a huge advantage. It is because of these inherent advantages, RTDS will be more extensive application in the planning, design and operation of power systems. RTDS is currently the most widely used as a commercial real-time simulator, the simulation efficiency and precision are a leading level, RTDS grid stability, control strategy and planning simulation study in a stage of vigorous development at home and abroad useThis paper focuses on the RTDS real-time simulation model, and currently several models were analyzed. With the proportion of wind power in the power system increases, double-fed wind turbine applications increasingly widespread, is gradually becoming the mainstream of the domestic models. Large-capacity wind power centralized access, long-distance transportation and wind turbine control output characteristics of the wind farms and so decided to have a greater impact and influence network system will run. Wind farms comprising aerodynamic system unit complex dynamic mechanical systems, electrical systems, control and protection systems, and other physical system to study the dynamic characteristics using analytical methods is very difficult, requiring the use of system simulation methods to study it. How to take full account of the dynamic behavior of the wind farm complex lines, establish an appropriate dynamic equivalent model for wind farms, proper evaluation of the impact of wind power on the power system and reliable operation, it is very important and urgent.In this paper, Liaoning Province, the grid-based modeling and simulation equivalent Northeast Power Grid 500kV backbone, based on the needs of the equivalent backbone, were RTDS simulation and related practical application, and to verify this selection method is reasonable.
