With the development of the technology of the internet of things, people realize the integration of human society and the physical system. The technology integrates video monitoring, security, fire alarm, heating and ventilation functions, which is to improve the control quality of substation through remote control.This paper introduces the background and significance, analyzes of development status of intelligent substation auxiliary systems and the status of networking technology. Combing of the construction of intelligent Xi Jing 220kV substation, it deeply studies the applications networking technology for the substation management, control, operation, maintenance and other sides.Firstly, paper describes the concepts of the intelligent substation and the internet of things, analyzes the relations between the internet of things and the smart grid technologies; and analyzes the prospects of applying things for the smart substation, providing a theoretical basis for the following study. Then, paper studies collection and transmission of sensor network information; introduces the transmission of wireless sensor networks and low power research on the Xi Jing substation; deeply researches for the sensor network. Thirdly, paper introduces the advantage for multi-source collaborative awareness and integration of heterogeneous information; makes a thorough research for the strategies of collaborative awareness and information fusion strategy; analyzes the case of synergies perception and information fusion between wireless temperature sensor nodes, synergies perception and information fusion between image sensors and other sensors. Subsequently, the paper introduces the development of the Xi Jing substation auxiliary systems intelligent control software, integration of various subsystems auxiliary systems; studies the protocol communication of auxiliary system; and illustrates control system’s technical and functional features. Finally, the paper turns into a live test and verification on the Xi Jing, including electromagnetic compatibility test, electromagnetic environmental test, sensor performance test, software functional test and electrical performance test. We conclude that the internet of things adapts auxiliary production system to automatically control, smart regulation and coordination of joint and other needs of Xi Jing 220kV substation, developing new areas of the application of the internet of things in the intelligent substation.
