Research On Building Model Synthesis By Structural Analysis

Following the digital audio, images and video, digital geometry has been recognized as a new-ly emerging digital multimedia, which has been widely used in industrial manufacturing, digital entertainment and many other areas. As the exponentially increasing appearance of sharable digi-tal geometry, how to realize the effective reuse of existing model resources has become one of the important subjects faced in this field. Example-based model synthesis constructs new models based on the existing models, which can not only directly determine the pattern of models, but also sim-plify and accelerate the modeling process. Such technology provides an effective way for model resources reusing and becomes a focus research in the field of digital geometry processing.We regard the building as the entry point of our research. This paper makes systematic research on the two problems of example-based model synthesis:model structural analysis and model syn-thesis involved. And then, develop the prototype system named Building-Synthesis base on the previous researches. Generally, the main contributions of this paper are:1. Transformation Space-Based Discovering Structural Regularity from 3D Building Model. We transform the discovery of regular geometric structure in the initial 3D model space into the detection and deduction of regular grid pattern in a 2D translation transformation space. Without prior information of shape, size or other relevant things of the repetitive structural units in building model, this method can simultaneously estimate the repetition pattern and detect the repeating geometric. And then, realize regular structure discovering. The experiment result shows that, the method can extract the corresponding structural unit quickly, and lay a solid foundation for subsequent model synthesis.2. A Model Synthesis Method Based on Single Building Facade. Making use of the char-acteristic that most of building models are constructed from the stitching and combination of each separate facade, we transform the synthesis of building models into the seamless stitching of each single building facade after respective synthesis. And then, we realize a new convenient modeling method. The experiment result shows that, the method mentioned in the paper can generate build-ing models of absolutely different styles quickly and efficiently based on single or multiple samples, and provide a new way for the problem of model synthesis.3. Application system of Building-Synthesis. We combine the previous researches into the application system. Our system not only enriches the means of modeling for professionals, but also enables nonprofessionals to enjoy the fun of modeling.
