It is increasingly important for the security of the ammunition with the continuous development of the military science and technology and higher request is made. TATB based PBX is composed of insensitive explosive TATB and polymer binder, which is considered to be one of the most excellent insensitive explosives due to its ideal security. So it is of great significance to study the TATB based PBX.Fine TATB and RDX were prepared by two kinds of recrystallization methods. The characteristic properties of the two kinds of base explosive thus obtained have been confirmed by SEM XRD, DSC and the mechanical sensitivity was measured. It was observed that Jet refining method is superior to Spray refining method, TATB with particle size around 60 nm and RDX with particle size around 2μm is gotten. The thermal stability of fine TATB and RDX is reduced. The impact sensitivity of fine TATB increase, which of fine RDX reduce yet.The binder is selected by simulation. Materials Studio is used to model TATB/RDX explosive mixture system with binder to get the better binder.The formulation of TATB based PBX is optimized, and functional test is carried out on different kinds of PBX. The influence of the particle size of the base explosive and the gradation size distribution of the base explosive on the PBX has been revealed. Which make a foundation for the further research.
