Reactive power compensation in the operation of power grid is an indispensable part of. SVG reactive compensation technology plays a very important role as an emerging still.SVG is a compensation device based on voltage source converter, which realizes the leap of reactive power compensation, and represents the latest technology in the field of reactive power compensation. SVG is parallel to the power grid, which is equivalent to a variable reactive current power supply, and its reactive current can quickly follow the changes of reactive current. SVG compared with the traditional reactive power compensation device has the following advantages: the response speed is faster, the voltage flicker suppression ability is stronger, the operation range is wider, the compensation function is diverse, the harmonic content is very low, and the area of the area is small. SVG reactive power compensation device in the transmission system, because of its large capacity of the DC side of the capacitor, so sometimes in the short time, the SVG device can also transport certain active power to the grid, so as to achieve the purpose of improving the stability of the power grid,which can be seen, SVG power grid has a lot of benefits.This paper first introduces the basic concepts of the reactive power as well as its background. This article pays specific focus on the basic principles and the concept of the SVG and its core content- reactive current detection methods. Finally we introduce the SVG system design.
