After decades of development, the real valued model updating method has been fully studied. However, the Finite Element model obtained by the real valued model updating, can’t provide a satisfactory prediction about the responses of the structure in reality. Recently, the uncertain model updating methods, which can take uncertainties also into considerations, are gradually become popular. These methods consider the input parameters of FE model as intervals or random variables with specific statistical characteristics so that they can enhance the prediction capability of the FE model. The main research contents of the dissertation are listed as follows:1. Firstly, the latest research carried out in the field of model updating methods based on uncertainty analysis both at national and international level have been introduced in detail. Then a systematic comparison between each method of uncertainty analysis in uncertain model updating was performed.2. Then interval Analysis has been systematically introduced as a non-probabilistic approach to Uncertainty Analysis. In addition, the procedure to perform uncertain model updating based on Response Surface Method and Interval Analysis has been presented in detail. Also the theories of key links have been illustrated in detail.3. While considering the drawbacks of interval analysis and the features of model updating, two methods based on interval analysis, affine arithmetic and Genetic Algorithm have been devised. After that, two numerical examples were exhibited to show the feasibility of the methods presented above.4. At the end of this thesis, the procedure and the problem solving strategies mentioned above have been applied to the model updating of a certain cable-stayed bridge.
