With the rapid development of urban transport and the growth of our economy, the traditional fossil fuel-based vehicle is facing unprecedented challenges. As a pollution-free, efficient and new green vehicles, the energy storage tram is more and more concerned by people. But the research on the simulation system of the energy storage tram is still in the initial stage.The simulation system for the energy storage tram was compiled through research. It can be divided into two parts in framework:tram performance simulator and power grid simulator. The tram performances simulator simulates the operation of a single vehicle, including the running time, speed, position, energy storage equipment state and energy consumption, etc. While the power grid simulator simulates the power system with the operation of several trams, including the voltage and power of charging stations and PCC with time.According to the energy storage tram characteristics, the model of traction calculation was built in this paper. The energy consumption calculation under different working conditions was deduced and the tram running ways under different traction strategies were analyzed. A new optimized traction strategy based on time-approach search algorithm was built. The traction simulation system for the energy storage tram was completed based on Visual Studio.In the power grid simulator, the load characteristics during the charging process were analyzed and the equivalent model of AC power grid was built. The calculation algorithms of several trams with the train diagram were built based on Newton Raphson method. At last, the simulation for the power flow calculation and the harmonic estimation on VC++(Microsoft Visual C++) platform were completed.With the example of Guangzhou Haizhu modern tram line, the energy storage life under different tram operations and parameters of AC network in the process of tram charging were analyzed. The simulation results showed that charging station was not necessary in every station when the tram was in the case of low-speed. Tram charging process hasn’t a greater impact on the power grid, and the power calculation results meet the national standard.
