Reinforced soil retaining wall was proposed by the French Henry Vetter in twentieth Century 60 years. With its remarkable economic benefits, in the 80 s-90 s it was widely used in the engineering construction in our country, especially in the construction of roads and railway. However, In recent years, due to the rapid increase of traffic load and construction quality, the reinforced soil retaining wall has produced serious deformation or damage which Constitute a threat to the safety of people’s life and property. So it is imperative to evaluate the safety of the reinforced soil retaining wall.Reference to gravity retaining wall of safety evaluation method, considering the structural characteristics of reinforced soil retaining wall, the safety evaluate flow and the content of the reinforced soil retaining wall was put forward in this paper, which include on-site test, laboratory test, theory analysis and numerical simulation.In the engineering background of reinforced soil retaining wall in binjiang avenue, utilizing the the safety evaluate flow and the content of the reinforced soil retaining wall in this paper, filter layer thickness were detected by the radar, the wall face deformation were measured by the total station, the road settlement were monitored, the drain of the wall were surveyed, the friction of the reforced and the filling were tested and numerical simulation were carried out. Based on the reformation and force state of the reinforced soil retaining wall, the safety of the reinforced soil retaining wall was evaluated. The following conclusion were getted.(1) The external stability of the reinforced earth retaining wall meet the requirements because there were not overturning and slip phenomenon on the reinforced earth retaining wall.(2) The friction force can resist the pulling force of reinforcement, because there no relative sliding between the reinforced soil retaining wall internal reinforcement and filling stability zone.(3) The demage reason of reinforced soil retaining wall is the breakage of the strip contact to the wall panel,(4) The reforced strip test show that, when the temperature is greater than 50 c, the obvious creep will be produed in the reforced strip. Because the on-site temperature is greater than 50 c in summer, so the reforced strip creeped, so the steel wire of the reforced strip were exposed to the air. There was a hole in the platform on the collapse exactly, the water drained into the hole, so the steel wire of the reforced strip rusted and broked.(5) Using the measured data, through the laboratory test and numerical simulation the destructive mechanism of the reinforced soil retaining wall was revealed, which have certain reference significance for later analysis and research on engineering similar case.
