With the improvement of the level of material life, people pay more and more attention to their health problems, the balance of dietary nutrient intake and energy consumption has gradually been paid attention by people too. Resting energy expenditure as the largest proportion (60%-75%) for human’s daily total energy consumption, is the based energy for awakening necessary and maintaining the normal function of cells and organs of the body, for assessment and maintain human body’s metabolism and the balance of energy consumption and supply, has significance important meaning. The "gold standard" method to measure the resting energy expenditure is the indirect calorimetry, but the current market indirect calorimetric instruments are expensive, complex operation, measurement of demanding and unable to meet public people and metabolic disorder patient’s demand for large resting energy consumption measurement. In order to improve this situation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hefei Institutes of physical science, independently developed a new type of indirect heat instrument, the IIM-IC-100 metabolic cart, which was operated simple, measured more comfortable, and have a low price. Before production and clinical application, to ensure the reliability of the measurement results, it is particularly important to test the system’s accuracy and repeatability. Due to the resting energy metabolism’s important research value and clinical meaning, the indirect calorimetry apparatus, IIM-IC-100 metabolic cart, will have a very broad prospects in the future’s application research.This paper starting from the introduction of the indirect calorimetry’s principle, at first, we introduced the IIM-IC-100 metabolic cart’s work principle and the software design. And then, we verification the in vitro validation with the device simulation and the in vivo validation with the similar effective instruments, two experimental methods assessment the accuracy and the reliability of the measurement results of IIM-IC-100 metabolic cart system together. At last, this paper also studied the indirect calorimetric method application for obese people, use the IIM-IC-100 cart test their resting metabolic rate, to explore the application path for fat people’s weight management.The in vivo and in vitro validation experimental results show that compare to the control group, the margin of test error of IIM-IC-100 metabolism car’s measured results are within an acceptable range both in vitro and in vivo verification experiment. The instrument also has a good repeatability both in simulation and clinical experiment. In the application experiments of obese people’s metabolic rate, we found that there are significant differences between normal weight people and obese subjects in energy metabolism. According to the specific metabolic situation of obese subjects, make accurate nutrition prescription and perform, and with proper motion, can effectively control weight and improve the energy metabolism of abnormal situation. Therefore we draw the conclusion:The IIM-IC-100 metabolic car’s resting energy metabolism measurement results are stable and reliable; On the basis of indirect energy tester reasoning out accurate nutrition prescription, can have a significant effect in terms of weight control and metabolic regulation.
