Wind power generation has the characteristics of random fluctuation and intermittence. The characteristics of wind power result in difficult to be incorporated into the power grid. With the rapid development of energy storage technology, energy storage system is effective method to solve the scheduling problem of wind power. Energy storage has the characteristics of output power controllable flexible. Energy storage system installation in wind farm can improve the schedulability of wind farm power. This paper focuses on the energy storage system to improve the wind power prediction accuracy and smooth wind power fluctuation.In order to improve the prediction accuracy of wind power, this paper puts forward a capacity determination method based on discrete Fourier transform and a capacity determination method based on probability statistics. The historical data of wind farms is chosen and calculated with different accuracy improvement of wind power prediction and different methods of capacity determination. The advantages and reliability of different methods are analyzed in the paper. The minimum power and energy capacity of energy storage system can be calculated with different accuracy improvement of wind power prediction is proposed in this paper, the wind farm can choose minimum capacity of energy storage system according to their needs.Based on capacity of energy storage system calculated before, analysis the influence on the fluctuation of wind power. First of all, the characteristics of wind power fluctuation can be described. This paper chooses the wind power fluctuation rate, average power and relative standard deviation to describe the fluctuation of wind power. Secondly, analysis the effect of different power output strategy of energy storage system and energy storage capacity on smoothing the wind power fluctuation.Single energy storage system is difficult to meet the demand of wind power generation. A capacity determination method of composite energy storage system based on discrete Fourier transform was presented. According to the technical characteristics of energy type and power type energy storage, determine the output power.
