Study On The Landscape Of The Tunnels In Downtown Of Chengdu

The number of city tunnels is rapidly increasing, both by the requirements of the citizens’ travelling efficiency and the cities’ urban landscape aesthetics. City tunnel is a type of urban overpassing but belongs to metro construction as well. Nowadays, the studies of the urban overpassing landscapes are, mostly, aiming to the ones of viaducts above the ground, while the studies of the landscape of urban tunnel are, mostly, aiming to the tunnel portal landscape design. And the systematic study of the landscape design of tunnels is very rare.The city tunnel is a part of the urban road landscape. While meeting the basic functional requirement of fast travelling, it must be accommondant to environment of the certain roads of certain cities, designed under the doctrine with no violation of local history, culture and the humanity spirit, but with persisting of safety, regionality, humanity and identifiability. By embellishing the landscape, artifying it, literaturifying it, and melting it into the original sector design, the tunnel landscape would be a magnificent upgrade to the quality of city’s street landscape, as it is a vivid presentation of the city’s spirituality.This dissertation is a rudimentary study of tunnel landscape in the major sector of Chengdu. Through consulting the literature cited and field investigation, with the knowledge of bridge aesthetics, landscape sequence, landscape vision, behavior psychology and semiology, the aspects of tunnel landscape in the major sector of Chengdu on which dissertation sets its discussion are its general style, portal or access type, the design of walls of the approach road and isolation lairage, and the affiliated landscape such as the plant configuration on open section, the road signs and the nightscape illumination, etc. It would also conclusively give three general design layouts with methods of theme identification, color collocation and plant configuration, in the name of respecting and offering reference to the construction of urban tunnels.The major achievements:1)By analyzing the landscape space of the city tunnel with the knowledge of landscape sequence, the landscape line is divided.2)Investigation and analysis of the current condition of the city tunnel and its users’ psychological need is done.3)With the knowledge of relating theories, the dissertation sets a systematic discussion on the city tunnel landscape’s general style, portal or access type, the design of walls of the approach road and isolation lairage, and its affiliated landscape. And the conclusion is the design must be under the doctrin of persisting safety, regionality, humanity and identifiability.4)There are three general design layouts with methods of theme identification, color collocation and plant configuration studied initially.
