City Park, as the city’s green infrastructure, provides a place of leisure and relaxation for the residents. As growth of Chinese economy, people’s living standards have been significantly improved, and the requirements of comfort and landscape of the city park are also raised. Thus in urban construction, the investment on city park’s construction keeps growing. What followed is the waste of resources during landscaping in city parks. Therefore, an economical concept of landscaping will help to improve the efficiency of resources usage and guide economical landscaping of city parks. Despite of a large amount of research on landscape construction, few attention has been paid on their economical efficiency and how to evaluate the economical efficiency of city parks landscaping.Based on the theoretical concepts of city parks and previous studies on the economical landscape of city parks, consulting experts to selected the index system, and scoring on the index to get weight value, an evaluation System for economical landscape design of city parks has been constructed and employed to evaluate the economical levels of landscape design of Chengdu people’s park. Through these studies, some results were obtained as follows:(1) Proposed a method to evaluate the economical efficiency of landscaping of city parks. Learning from the research literatures and fully considering the character istics of city parks, this study constructed an evaluation model of the economical la ndscape design of city park, including 4 guidelines layers and 24 index layers. Usi ng this model, the economical efficiency of landscape design in Chengdu People’s Park was evaluated.The rationality of this evaluation system was validated.(2) In guidelines layer, except for "energy-saving" with little affection on the e conomical efficiency, the other three show similar affects, and "water-saving" layer has the highest score. In index layer, reasonable traffic organization, using of local plants and material, and rational use of terrain have large influence on economic al efficiency of landscape design. Using of biomass energy and passive energy savi ng have little influence on economical landscape design. In the construction of econ omical landscape design, important indicator should be primarily considered.(3)The evaluation of economical efficiency of landscaping in Chengdu People’s Park was performed by using the index system of economical landscape design of city parks. The total score of park is 49.72, which is in the medium level. Judging from the results of the evaluation, the saving use of land, materials, energy are in the medium levels, whereas the water conservation scored poorly.(4) From the results, the advantages and disadvantages in Chengdu People’s Park in terms of the of economical landscape design were found. The advantages are:reasonable traffic organization, use of local materials, the use of native plants, and passive energy conservation; The disadvantages includes the rational use of original terrain, use of new materials, use of water-saving irrigation methods, and use of new energy. Put forward suggestions for the economical landscape design of People’s Park,which could be helpful to the economical landscape design of city parks.
