Research On Roof Greening Inlandscape Design

With development of cities and deterioration of environments as well as improvements in architectural technology, roof greening is paid to more and more attention by countries from all over the world and thus gets rapidly developed. The scientific and reasonable roof greening could efficiently save greening land, extend urban green space, improve urban eco-environment, alleviate the urban tropical island effect, and beautify the structures. Therefore, the roof greening is not only the combination of architecture and art, but of human and nature. It could embody the ecological, economic, and social benefits at the same time and has become one of the most significant methods of urban greening project.Compared with abroad, roof greening, a complex synthesis which refers to many subjects such as ecology, architecture, landscape architecture, aesthetics, was started later in China, thus its development still exists many problems in our country. In the future, the developing of Chinese roof greening should highlight the basic point of maintaining the ecology balance and it should be planed and designed with knowledge of above subjects scientifically and reasonably. Only in this way can roof greening save the urban land, improve urban co-environment, beautify urban landscape and promote the quality of people’s living environment. Under this background, this essay will, through the studies on development stage and history of roof greening as well as its functions and significance, summarize the problems in its development and construction. Besides, the essay explores and summarizes the structure and construction of roof greening, and choices and cultivations of plants on the roof through ground-research into the examples at home and abroad. The essay also emphasizes on searching for designing elements of roof greening with Chinese characteristics, and on taking roof greening as architectural carriers of local, regional and cultural characteristics, aiming to establish theoretical basis for the excellent development of Chinese roof greening.
