Urban Lighting Planning And Design

Lighting, with its sense and tone, as a reflection of the urban physical environment, is a special substantial existence of the natural environment that plays important role in the contemporary urban night scene. Therefore, urban lighting planning has become the most important method to improve the night scenes. Moreover, along with the improvement of the quality of people’s lifestyle, there is a higher demand on the aesthetics of the environment, and as a result, urban lighting is receiving more attention over the society. Through appropriate urban lighting method, which is getting more professional and intelligent, the process of decorating and improve urban night environment has become an expression of urban economy and culture development.The purpose of this thesis is to unveil the trend of urban lighting planning development in this country and further propose an appropriate strategy. To achieve this, background discussions are made by looking into the history and development pattern of current urban planning, comparing and analyzing the urban lighting and planning throughout domestic and international cities. This thesis makes thorough study of a precedence case, Suzhou High-Speed Rail New Town project, and builds up analysis from three aspects: regional cultural features of urban night scene, the positioning of urban landscape lighting design, and the design methods of urban night scene lighting.
