In the field of equipment maintenance, virtual maintenance technology is a new virtual reality technology. In addition, its essence is using computer technology to simulatethe actual repair process. Virtual Maintenance must be based on virtual reality technology which uses computer equipment, such as the hardware and its corresponding device.In order to achieve equipment maintenance and repair implementation, the virtual maintenance can provide convenient maintenance and technical support for the actual maintena nce perso-nnel. At the same time, it provides the help for the maintenance of weapons and equi pment witho-ut space and time limitations.This paper systematically studied virtual maintenance, designed virtual maintenance of the overall program, based on a real device composition principle to model and to convert the model, and the technical study is divided into two parts.First, this paper studied the collision detection algorithm in the virtual maintenance. The different types of detection have the different characteristic. The bounding box algorithm has been improved. The improved bounding box closely approaches the extent of the object. Through reducing the number of cylindrical bounding box, the superimposed test was reduced, while efficiency of the object was improved.The detection algorithm of the bounding box collision was used by virtual maintenance. The virtual maintenance process was achieved by two following methods.The first part was simulated by editing software named Virtools that have interactive beha vior modules and ability of real-time 3D virtual environment. This paper developed the demons tration of the virtual maintenance based on model of a real device, through making equipment v irtual process.The second part research technology that image rendering and modeling techniques based on OpenGL on Visual C++ environment. This paper researched reading technology of 3DS f ormat files for virtual maintenance simulation, through processing the MAX format and light.
