Nowadays, construction, industrial and transportation are tied for three major industries of high energy consumption in China. Building energy consumption is shown a sharp rising trend, especially with the total construction raises year by year and the construction of the indoor comfort requirements continue to increase. According to the statistics of Ministry of housing and urban rural development, China building energy consumption accounted for only 16% of the total energy consumption of the whole society in 1993, this data has been increased to 28% in 2012.In addition, Chinese heating energy consumption of unit building area is 2~3 times of similar climatic conditions in developed countries.At the same time,The higher education of our country entered a period of rapid development of a new round in the late ninety’s to twentieth Century, the surge in the number of college enrollment has brought opportunities and challenges for the development of their own. With the continuous development of China’s Higher Education, the scale of university campus is rapid expanding. It is often seen new and expansion of the university campus around the city. Teaching building is the main building of university campus and also the material carrier of the whole higher education, provides the material basis of higher education. Teaching building users are young students, therefore they require higher comfort of the internal teaching building space.The comfortable and healthy teaching environment plays an important role in learning efficiency and physical and mental health of users. Meanwhile, due to the large number and size, annual energy consumption of teaching building can not be underestimated. Therefore, teaching building has great potential in energy saving.Xi’an is in the cold area building thermal partition, and close to the area of hot summer and cold winter. Therefore, building thermal design should not only meet the heat preservation in winter, but also take into account the summer thermal protection.Through the architectural climate analysis chart of Xi’an area, the strategy of architecture climate design in Xi’an area is confirmed as traditional heating +passive solar heating + natural ventilation. Through the investigation status of the teaching building of Xi’an area, types and the characteristics of energy consumption of college teaching building in Xi’an area are grasped.Through the investigation and study, two representative teaching building are selected to measured two seasons of winter and summer thermal environment. Through the research methods of control variables, sets different conditions, makes a quantitative analysis on the improvement of indoor thermal environment effect of natural ventilation,night ventilation cooling, indoor sunshade, the utilization of underground space and other several passive strategy,finds indoor thermal environment problems of winter and summer,and presents the improvement suggestions.The paper also establishes a typical model building of college teaching building,makes a quantitative analysis on the influence of orientation and the envelope of the energy consumption of the building and also makes a comparison and evaluation on the thermal performance of the building envelope design improvement and economic benefits. At last, the paper summarizes the design strategy of energy saving building for Xi’an area from the aspect of building layout, orientation, shape control, the plane partition, the external retaining structure design, passive solar heat storage, natural ventilation design, hoping to be a valuable reference for the actual engineering.
