Abstract/Summary:
Community health service is considered an important part of urban health work, as well as the basis to achieve the goal of “Primary Health Care for All”. Thus, both the spatial distribution of community health service institutions in Xi’an downtown and their transportation accessibility characteristics are deeply analyzed in this study so as to make contributions to ease the faults in urban ordinary medical services from the viewpoints of city planning and traffic engineering.Firstly, the concept of accessibility was defined based on the clarification of the implications and characteristics of the community health service institutions. And then 5 influential factors of the accessibility of community health service institutions were put forward, including administrative divisions, population distribution, capacity of facilities, spatial distance and traffic impedance. With the spatial layout objectives of fairness and convenience, potential model has been employed to evaluate the accessibility of community health service institutions.Secondly, Xi’an downtown had been taken as the research area, and then the impedance coefficients of 55 community health service institutions in the research area had been calculated through the study on calculation method of the pedestrian traffic impedance consisting of both road impedance and intersection impedance. Moreover, the potential model had been improved and optimized on the basis of pedestrian traffic impedance gained above. With the help of ArcGIS, a geographical database of the community health service institutions in Xi’an downtown was established and the accessibility indices of 25 blocks in the research area were calculated.Thirdly, spatial distribution analysis of pedestrian impedance and accessibility were done by means of classification comparison and Kriging interpolation, and the reasons for the unbalanced distribution characteristics were indicated from the aspects of land resources supply, public facilities construction and urban traffic planning. Finally, countermeasures and suggestions related to the fields of medical services, urban planning and traffic engineering were advanced so that the accessibility of community health service institutions in Xi’an downtown can be improved in the future.
