Pneumatic braking system is usual y used on commercial vehicles, a gas leak will lead to lack of pressure, which will seriously affect the stability of the braking process, and there is a security risk. Air pump is a key component of a pneumatic braking system, the wear of the piston and the cylinder liner is one of the main causes of the leak. Ceramic materials have excel ent mechanical properties and wear resistance, it is an ideal alternative to metal liner. In this Paper, improving vehicle brake safety and reducing wear on the brake pump are the engineering background, for the actual environmental conditions of the vehicle braking system air pump, an in-depth study has been done on the anti-wear technology of the vehicle braking system air pump, and the tribological properties of the ceramic cylinder pump has been studied. The main work of this Paper is as follows:1. Principles and conditions of the vehicle braking system air pump have been analysed;2. The performance of ceramic materials has been been analysed, appropriate ceramic materials has been confirmed;3. Processing and pre Paration of the ceramic sleeve sample;4. The structure of the pump has been designed, and the pump sample has been made;5. The friction- wear mechanism of sleeve and piston has been studied. With ANSYS, an FEA has been done on the sleeve and the equivalent stress distribution has been analysis;6. Experimental study.The results show that: the stress is concentrated in the friction surface of the inner sleeve, which is a major cause of wear. Under the conditions of dry friction, the amount of wear of the ceramic material is smaller than the one of metallic material. SEM analysis on the wear surface shows that, the metal surface have scratches and dents, while scratches on the ceramic surface are almost non-existent, there are no abrasive wear and adhesive wear, and there is no brittle flaking. Zr O2 ceramics with high strength, good wear resistance, high hardness, good oxidation resistance and chemical resistance, is an ideal material of the cylinder sleeve of the vehicle braking system air pump.The study results will provide a useful reference for the safety of vehicle air brake in the future, and provide technical reference for anti-wear technology engineering applicatio ns of ceramic materials in the future.
