With the rapid economic development, people’s personal and property safety awareness is growing, and fire safety has become a concern for the world’s people. With the rapid development of materials synthesis techniques, more and more new building materials come on, to protect people the safety and property. Testing and analying combustion characteristics of building materials are very meaningful to ensure the safety of people lives and property security, while smoke toxicity and comprehensive damage is the most important combustion characteristic of building materials.The paper overviews the products of building materials burning smoke, and summarizes the development domestic and oversea of smoke toxicity testing methods and evaluation model, analyzing the problems of smoke toxicity testing and integrated smoke damage evaluation. The main research of this paper is as follows.(1) The overall frame of smoke cigarettes integrated testing for building materials is proposed, which is designed from the integrated structure and integrated control system. Then the overall framework for smoke toxicity test system of building materials is presented, which is composed of the gas sensor module, acquisition card module, the hardware circuit module;(2) The paper proposes the overall frame of smoke testing software system for building materials, introduces operation process, and analyzes the principles and implementation process of the testing software system. The introduction of inverse take sample variance method is introduced to improve the testing accuracy of smoke toxicity;(3) The paper analyzes smoke composition and research the main effect mechanism of smoke harm. The smoke damage quantitative integrated evaluation method and model is put forward.(4) The smoke toxicity testing and integrated damage evaluation experiments of PVC floorings are carried out, introducing smoke toxicity testing experiment setup of building materials, operation process and system calibration.The results of smoke toxicity testing and integrated damage evaluation experiments of PVC floorings show that the smoke integrated damage method and model is scientific and feasible, and it is more suitable to evaluate smoke integrated damage for full size building materials.
