Since the 20 th century, China’s higher education is influenced by modern collaborative constructivist. Constructivism outstanding student-centered, emphasizing learning initiative, Situational, interactive and social, Believe that knowledge is not an objective existence in the books, But students acquire knowledge through the construction of meaning, with the help of others,certain situations and the necessary learning resources. Learning environment is a place to provide students with a variety of cognitive tools and learning resources to accommodate their mutual communication, cooperation, and explore. Constructivism revelatory significance for our education and campus buildings.In two decades, a series of university library learning commons building examples construction completed. It is relying on constructivist learning theory, its space update from three parts, the level of architectural design, service and management, built an ideal place to learn Supports collaborative and interactive learning. The reseach object of this paper is the library learning commons, to define its concept, analyze learning behavior in this space, summarize characteristics of the space, probe the construction of learning space. Finally put forward the construction idea of university library learning commons and Guiding Principles of architectural design, want to give some reference value and strategic guidance for the development of Chinese unvierstiy library learning commons architecture design.This thesis has six chapters in totel. Chapter 1 is an introduction of the research background, purpose and significance, research object, current research status, research approach and framework.Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 is to analyze the problem, introducing and defining the concept of learning commons first, a preliminary understanding of the learning commons, analyzing its development and conditions for development, summarize its significance in the development of university libraries; then study these outstanding foreign university library buildings examples and evaluation systems, combined questionnaire domestic university libraries, from the student learning behaviors and spatial demands, this paper proposes the necessity of learning to share space research library. Finally, it is necessary to construct learning commons of university library.Chapter 4 and Chapter 5 is to solve the problem, as the core content of the paper, analysis based on the diversified and complicated learning behavior in the learning commons, learning to share a single space design space to expand the space, functionality and fine design study. Then discusses the library learning commons is a ideal space with "one-stop learning service", from the macro, meso and micro levels to explore its expansion mode and architectural design guidelines, and ultimately to optimize the design of practical projects for example and evidence point of view of this paper.
