In China, with the increase of steel production, the application of the steel structure is more and more emphasized on saving, aesthetic, convenient in construction now rather than only stressed on saving in the past. Now we consider whether use it or not in a full perspective. At the same time, the new architecture has been invented. Grid structure is an important branch of steel structures. Since been introduced, it continues to be widely used by people. Its footprints have been found throughout the country, bu t increasing use has also brought fatigue on the traditional grid structure. Many domestic and foreign scholars and engineers do their effort to study and practice the new structure, which is configured to energize the grid structure. The new grid structure type continues to be expanded. Research on grid structure has almost been completed in the nineties. The current study is mainly on the new form structure. Compared with the linear elements, arc elements have curvy shape and a stronger sense of viewing, which can enrich the structural forms.This article intends to bring arc element into the use of grid structure, exploring reasonable calculation model and mechanical properties of the grid structure, which use the circle as the chord. This article is aimed at expanding grid forms, enriching the structural systems, conducting engineering practice. The concrete work is listed as follows:(1) Combined by the principle of geometry constitution, use the straight bar elements and circle elements as the basic unit to build a viable grid structure, predicting the possible mechanical behavior of the structure.(2) Propose the mechanical model assumptions which can be selected. With the help of ANSYS software, select the appropriate element type, build the finite element analysis model.(3) Respectively regarding several typical grids with circle element in the upper and bottom chord as the research object, analysis the static performance of the structure, and a preliminary understanding has acquired. Based on the calculated internal forces and the reflected characteristics, explore the possible simplified model, ultimately obtain the most simplified and reasonable model as the circle chord use the space arc beam element, the other chord and diagonal member use the space link element, the connection between members is hinge except the connection between arc elements is rigid. At the micro, explore the internal force distribution on the circle chord, determine the applicable computing unit is the arc segment between the tangent point of the two circles. The most unfavorable section is the midspan of the arc segment.(4) Based on the most simplified and reasonable model, calculate several typical cases, considering the combination of uniform load, non-uniformly distributed load, concentrated load conditions. Attempt to design the structural, understanding the static performance of the structure in a comprehensive way. For the circle in the upper chord, do eigenvalue buckling analysis, to get a preliminary understanding of the structure’s stable performance. Do dynamic research on typical models, prove that in the 8 degree of second-class area, it is no need to consider vertical earthquake.(5) According to the results of the overall analysis, explore three kinds of rational form of connections, analysis it’s applicability.
