The paper firstly introduced the development status, the basic structure, and the working principle of Switched Reluctance Linear Motor, summed up its characteristics and advantages, described the methods and tools of system simulation, and listed several common modeling methods. A three-phase Switched Reluctance Linear Motor was taken as the research object. In order to obtain its accurate flux data, the Flux software was used for finite element analysis depending on the size and material of the motor. And the nonlinear mathematical simulation model of the motor driven and generation system was built on MATLAB/SIMULINK according to the basic physical equations and data calculated by Flux. Then the RT-LAB hardware-in-the-loop simulation test platform, including the motor body, controller, power converter, the position, current and voltage detection hardware design were described. On this base, the detailed hardware-in-the-loop modeling process of the motor driven and generation system on RT-LAB were given to achieve velocity and generated voltage closed-loop control. What’s more, two methods of using or without position detection of generation system were adopted based on the power generation principle. The velocity response curves, the voltage and current waveforms by mathematical simulation and hardware-in-yhe-loop simulation of Switched Reluctance Linear Motor in driven and generation status shown that the mathematical simulation results were basically consistent with hardware-in-the-loop simulation results under the same conditions, which had proved the feasibility of the simulation model. Moreover, the models were applied to the traditional three-phase Switched Reluctance Motor, further validate the effectiveness of simulation model. Finally, the summary of total work and prospects for further works were given.
