Adaptive Cruise Control(ACC) system is a new generation safe driver assistant system, which develops on the traditional Cruise Control(CC) system. ACC system can release human drivers’ burden effectively, reduce car accidents due to bad driving skills and fatigue driving, and can also play a role to ease traffic jam. While Hybrid Electric Vehicle is fuel saving and environmentally friendly, which is one of the important development trend of future automobiles. Therefore combining the two and the research on ACC system of Hybrid Electric Vehicle will have a great significance in terms of human, traffic, environment and energy. Based on this, this paper investigates the control strategy of ACC system for Hybrid Electric Vehicle. The specific research Contents are as follows:Building the whole vehicle model is the prerequisite and foundation to realize the ACC control system function, So built whole vehicle model of Hybrid Electric Vehicle firstly, including engine, motor and battery, and time headway mathematical fit on the model by using particle swarm optimization algorithm, in order to Improve the operation speed. Secondly, design safe distance algorithm of variable time headway, analyze the stability of this algorithm, and compare the safe distance algorithm result of fixed time headway.Putforward ACC system global optimization control strategy of Hybrid Electric Vehicle based on multi-objective optimization function. Multi objective includes following indicators and energy efficiency. In order to avoid deteriorative fuel consumption and engine damage due to frequent start-stop of engine, design frequent start-stop function of engine. Write programs by using C language and four typical working conditions are simulated and analyzed, which include “Walk – stop” working condition, following condition, downhill following condition and up hill following condition.Based on the analysis of the global optimization control strategy, build the ACC system model predictive control strategy of Hybrid Electric Vehicle. Build simulation model by C language and MATLAB\Simulink, and simulate in the same simulation conditions of global optimization strategy.The result shows that the ACC predictive control strategy designed can control the ACC vehicle to run following the vehicle ahead, control the engine and motor reasonably to work harmonically, and reduce frequent start-stop time to a certain extent under the control of start-stop function. However, compared with the global optimization strategy result, the following distance error is large and fuel consumption is high.
