Computer Based Training system as new maintenance training method, has become very popular to research how to improve the efficiency of training and reduce the maintenance costs. In the Computer Based maintenance training process, it is the key to make a high-quality Computer Based Training(CBT) courseware efficiently. For current maintenance CBT courseware, it is a common way to extract the materials and knowledge points from numerous technical documents, then assemble them into a courseware by courseware development tools. However, it is difficult to inquire the data from the huge technical documents quickly and efficiently. So it is necessary to establish a knowledge database of Computer Based Training system which can provide the intelligent retrieving service to courseware developers.The core function of knowledge database of Computer Based Training is designed to provide intelligent search and retrieval service for courseware developers. There are two problems need to be solved in the designing. The first one is storage the knowledge in the way of standardized terminology, the other one is retrieving the database efficiently through reasonable organization.In this paper, the knowledge database was built by standardizing aviation maintenance knowledge and storage in view of S1000 D criterion. It is a good solution to share the knowledge and application among courseware developers in the field of aviation maintenance. In order to solve the problems in organization and retrieving to provide the intelligent query in semantic level, the search engine was designed based on semantic ontology which makes the database be capable of intelligence retrieving.
