Piezoelectric actuator is designed according to the inchworm motion in the nature, utilizing the inverse piezoelectric effect to make the clamping mechanism and driving mechanism working alternatively, which achieves the goal of continuous precision displacement output of the mover by the effect of the friction force from the calmping mechanism. Piezoelectric actuator has the characteristics of high resolution, large-displacement output, large-thrust and large specific power.The clamping type of the piezoelectric actuator consists of three kinds, that is, active clamping type, passive clamping type and screw clamping type. The linear large-thrust piezoelectric actuator proposed in this paper is designed using the third type. The driving mechanism and key technology during the designing process have been detaied discussed in this paper. A prototype is made and testing system has been set up to test the performance of the prototype. The main research is as follows:The classification and each characteristics of the piezoelectric actuator have been discussed, especially about the four kinds of piezoelectric actuator aimed at the precision positioning. The overall historical development and application of the piezoelectric inchworm actuator have been presented.The working principle of the piezoelectric inchworm actuator has been introduced. The structure and working principle of the piezoelectric actuator designed by the screw clamping type has been detailed discussed. A new kind of large-thrust linear piezoelectric actuator designed by the screw clamping type has been made out. The structure and working principle have been detailed presented.The key technological questions during the designing process of the actuator have been discussed. Key components of the actuator have been selected and their performances have been tested. A prototype is assenmblyed and the testing system has been set up to test the performance of the actuator. The result of the experiment has been detailed analysed.After the research above, dynamic models of the key components of the actuator have been established. Characteristics and the links between the models have been analysed. The overall dynamic model of the actuator has been presented by combining the models of its components..Finally, based on the characteristics of the actuator the paper studied, four different structures of the actuator have been presented with their principles introduced.
