Masonry structure is one of the better seismic performance structures of rural buildings, and is one of trend for the further rural buildings. With the lower economic development and the weaker seismic protection of earthquake, many completed selfbuilt masonry buildings are lack of rational design and construction in rural area, which results in potential safety hazard when earthquake occurs. At present, although the Code for design of masonry structures for multistory masonry buildings in urban area is established, but the Code for self-built masonry structures in rural area is lack of related study. In the context that the rural seismic behavior is paid attention, the self-built masonry structures are necessary to be researched, and related seismic fortification criteria should be developed. The main achievements of this dissertation are as follows:Based on the investigation on self-built masonry buildings, the paper indicates the current situation of earthquake-prone areas, such as southwest area, northwest area, and central area, analyzes the current problem, and establishes the related FEM models. For the summary on the earthquake damage characteristic of rural self-built masonry buildings under the seismic intensity 6~10, the seismic behavior of that masonry buildings are analyzed with the different fortification intensity by contrast matrix of earthquake damage.Based on the investigation build 12 FEM models of rural self-built masonry structures, the paper demonstrates the displacement and final failure of different FEM models under the seismic intensity 6~10, and indicates the contrastive analysis. Moreover, the mortar strength, structural details, structural arrangement and influence of seismic behavior are analyzed.With the earthquake damage analysis and numerical analysis. by the theory of seismic design and economic level of rural areas, the lowest fortification targets are established according to rural the self-built masonry structures in the high-intensity earthquake fortification zone and low-intensity earthquake fortification zone, respectively, the related seismic fortification suggestions are developed.
