The drive devices of linear motion are widely used in modern industrial, transportation, military and civilian fields. Conventional linear motion devices are generated by rotary motor, and then convert to linear motion by mechanical transmission means, it is complex and unreliable. Linear Switched Reluctance Motor(LSRM) has simple and direct-drive structure as well as high reliability. These properties make it suitable for precision linear motion.This paper introduces the research background and significance of linear switched reluctance motor at first, then the author makes a brief analysis of the working principle, electromechanical energy conversion and some other basic characteristics of the motor.Then the magnetic circuit is analysised at two important position, magnetic modle is also created in these two places. Airgap permeability and leakage magnetic permeability is calculated in detaily. flux linkage/current characteristics is obtained by both magnetic circuit mothod and finite element analysis, compare to finite element method,the magnetic circuit mothod is easier and of high accuracy. A motor design procedures based on flux linkage is proposed in this paper, combined to magnetic circuit mothod, the procedures can get the initial dimensions of the motor faster.In this paper, the Taguchi method is introduced into the local optimization of the motor.Force to weight ratio and the yoke flux density are selected as optimization target, several groups of parameters are picked up to perform an orthogonal experiment. According to the experimental results, the group that has the best comprehensive performance is chosen for finite element simulation. The simulation results demonstrate that Taguchi method is effective in the design.At last,a linear switched reluctance motor is manufactured according to the optimization result, then static force is measured through experiments, the result is similar to the simulation of finite element method. It shows the reliability of the experiments and the correctness of the finite element analysis.
